myFOXaustin(AUSTIN) - Austin is one of 11 cities to receive a $1 million dollar grant to help end teen dating violance.
According to a 2006 National survey 1 in 3 teenagers say they know a friend who has been physically hurt by their dating partner. It's a shocking number that Barbara Ball says needs to be addressed. Sunday, on the steps of the Capitol, Ball joined other organizations to raise awareness.
She is doing so through Start Strong Austin, a federally funded program aimed at promoting safe relationships at a young age.
"We need to reach the teens as they begin dating before they get into abusive situations they need to have the tools to have good relationships," says Ball, the project's director. View a video of the event.
